Bitumen Definition:

Bitumen is a naturally occurring mixture of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. The mixture takes the form of a high viscous, black, sticky tar-like substance entirely soluble in Carbon Disulfide. It can be refined from crude oil by fractional distillation and known for its waterproofing and adhesive properties. Bitumen production through distillation removes lighter crude oil components, such as gasoline and diesel, leaving the “heavier” Bitumen behind. It is often refined several times in order to improve its grade.

The quality of material and ease of production is dependent on the source and type of crude oil it is derived from. MTR Bitumen is completely Iranian Origin, which is known as one of the best qualities in the world. Let us proudly bold that Iran is the 7th producer and 4th exporter of Bitumen in the world and the largest producer of Bitumen in the Middle East.

Bitumen is used most often in road paving, in which Bitumen is called asphalt. Asphalt is a mixture of an aggregate and Bitumen and is commonly used as a road surface. Most roads in the world are made of either Bitumen, or a combination of Bitumen and aggregates, such as concrete. Bitumen can be recycled, meaning that engineers replacing roads asphalt can reuse the material on other road projects. It is also used in the creation of roofing products due to its waterproofing qualities.

Pursuant to the use of Bitumen, there are strict standards defined for it both in ASTM and EN like as ASTM D946-09 or EN12591-2009, … and according to its consumptions is categorized by different characteristics.

Penetration Grade Bitumen

Penetration Grade Bitumen is the standard Bitumen usually used as a Paving Grade essential for road construction and the production of asphalt pavements with superior properties, which is very important once it bounds the aggregates and creates a unique cohesion and stability to the Bitumen mix. This grade of Bitumen is mainly used in the manufacturing of hot mix asphalt for bases and wearing courses.

Penetration Grade Bitumen supplied by MTR is petroleum grade Bitumen, manufactured from fractional / vacuum distillation of crude oil. The Bitumen supplied by MTR is produced from vacuum residue (short residue) feedstock.

Penetration Grade Bitumen is specified by the penetration and softening point test. Designation is by penetration range only. The penetration grade Bitumen has a thermoplastic property which causes the material to soften at high temperatures and to harden at lower temperatures. This unique temperature/viscosity relationship is important when determining the performance parameters such as the adhesion, rheology, durability and application temperatures of Bitumen.

MTR supplies all Penetration Graded Bitumen Grades. Normal Grades are:

· Bitumen Penetration Grade 40-50

· Bitumen Penetration Grade 60-70

· Bitumen Penetration Grade 80-100

· Bitumen Penetration Grade 85-100

· Bitumen Penetration Grade 100-120

Viscosity Grade Bitumen

This type of Bitumen is graded on Basis of its viscosity and the Grades are as follows:

VG-10 is widely used in spraying applications such as surface-dressing and paving in very cold climate in lieu of old 80/100 Penetration grade. It is also used to manufacture Bitumen Emulsion and Modified Bitumen products.

VG-20 is used for paving in cold climate & high altitude regions.

VG-30 is primarily used to construct extra heavy duty Bitumen pavements that need to endure substantial traffic loads. It can be used in lieu of 60/70 Penetration grade.

VG-40 is used in highly stressed areas such as intersections, near toll booths and truck parking lots in lieu of old 30/40 Penetration grade. Due to its higher viscosity, stiffer Bitumen mixes can be produced to improve resistance to shoving and other problems associated with higher temperature and heavy traffic loads.

New Steel Drums Packing

Nowadays, the most/best common packing type for the Bitumen is Steel Drums. Although some customers ask for used or second hand drums, we propose new steel drums. We strongly recommend them to use new steel drums.

NOTE: USED DRUMS WASTE YOUR COMMODITY AND MONEY.

For containerized shipments we stuff each 110 drums in 1x20′ Box container which will read 21±1MT net weight of Bitumen.

Right now we supply Type A and B as below specification:
